South Calgary has an incredible wealth of long established and up-and-coming local businesses, especially in the food department. One thing I miss about not living in the south anymore is that South Calgary has some fantastic bakeries. While North Calgary has lots of great cafes, our local bakery scene isn’t as rich as in the south.
Although I spend less time living in the south (one year in the southwest near Signal Hill and another year in the southeast in Willow Park) than the north of Calgary, there are a few places that are good enough to bring me back. If you live in the south (and frankly, even if you live on the opposite end) you should try to make it to each of these businesses at least once. Trust me, they’re worth it!
1. Good Bread
Location: 8303 Fairmount Drive SE
Accessibility: There is one accessible parking space right out front and the entrance is accessible aside from the lack of an electronic door opener.
Good Bread is a local bakery in Acadia Shopping Centre on the corner of Fairmont Drive and Heritage Drive.

They serve delicious baked goods, including breads, pastries, scones, and more. They also serve drinks, including espresso beverages (lattes, cappuccinos, americanos, etc.), tea lattes, and hot chocolates. When I lived in the SE, this was our go-to spot. I love their cinnamon buns and scones, and my partner is partial to the carrot cake. They also frequently have samples around!
2. Café Jindo
Location: 8330 Macleod Trail SE Unit F7
Accessibility: The entry is flat; however, there is no electronic door openers for the two sets of doors. Additionally, accessible parking spaces are a little far from the doors, located on either end of the parking lot.
Café Jindo is a family owned and operated cafe in Heritage Plaza, on the corner of Macleod Trail and Heritage Drive.

The cafe is small, with only a few tables to dine in, but welcoming, bright, and the staff are very friendly. They offer some great beverage options, with both coffee and non-coffee choices. They also offer sweet treats, waffles, and sandwiches. One of my favourite things about Café Jindo is how they uplift other local businesses, showcasing products and hosting pop-ups. I love their smoked vanilla cronut and caffe frappe in particular.
3. Patisserie du Soleil Bakery Cafe
Location: 2525 Woodview Drive SW
Accessibility: Patisserie du Soleil has an accessible entry; however, there is no automatic door opener. The dining area is small, so it may be difficult to maneuver mobility aids between tables.
Patisserie du Soleil is a small bakery and cafe located in Woodbine, a South Calgary neighbourhood bordered by Anderson Road and Tsuut’ina Trail.
They have a bakery side where you can stop in and purchase breads, cakes, and pastries to go, or a dine in side.

I’ve had brunch here a couple times. Most recently I tried their Magical B.A.B.S. (bad ass breakfast sandwich), which is vegetarian friendly. My partner had the breakfast burrito and really enjoyed it. They also serve lunch. Day-old baked goods are sold at 50% off, so it’s a great spot to get affordable, local baking.
4. Neighbour Coffee
Location: 4038 16 Street SW
Accessibility: Neighbour Coffee has an accessible, single door entry, although it’s lacking an automatic door opener. The patio is not wheelchair accessible and the interior is small with limited seating.
Neighbour Coffee is a local gem tucked in Altadore. They´ve been here since 2017. The cafe has street parking only, but if you live anywhere in the area I highly recommend checking it out. Beyond nice coffee and tea lattes, they also serve fantastic breakfast sandwiches and tasty Montréal bagels.
5. Leshinsky’s Bakery and Cafe
Location: 11625 Elbow Drive SW
Accessibility: Leshinsky’s Bakery is located in the Canyon Meadows Shopping Centre, which offers accessible parking and entry (though without automatic doors).
If you´re looking for a local bakery with a wide range of delicious options, look no further than Leshinsky’s.

This staple in the Canyon Meadows neighbourhood offers East European-style cakes, breads, pastries, and more at great prices. I stopped here after an appointment in the area and brought a couple Danishes home. They were wonderful. I’d highly encourage you to check them out.
6. Philosafy Coffee
Location: 632 17 Avenue SW
Accessibility: Philosafy has an accessible entryway with double doors, but no automatic door openers.
Philosafy Coffee is on 17th Avenue, a busy hub of food and culture in Calgary. This charming cafe has been open since 2016, and offers your usual coffee fare, also with tea lattes, turmeric and beetroot lates, as well as some specialty iced drinks. They also have a small selection of pastries. The space is popular for working and studying, as well as group meetings. My book club had a meeting here last winter and it was a nice space.
7. Le Comptoir, by François
Location: 1928 34 Avenue SW
Accessibility: The cafe does not have an accessible entrance. It has stairs and the space itself is quite narrow.
Le Comptoir, by François is a cozy, French-style cafe with outdoor seating. It is a small space, but they have lots of options available.

We just stopped for drinks, but the cafe also serves pastries, snacks, and full meals, including sandwiches, quiches, salads, and burgers, as well as beer and wine. The cafe is very vegetarian friendly, with some vegan options as well.
8. Les Moulins La Fayette
Location: 8400 Blackfoot Trail SE
Accessibility: Les Moulins La Fayette has an adjacent parking lot with accessible spots and a flat entry with double doors. No automatic door opener.
Les Moulins La Fayette is a French-style bakery and cafe on Blackfoot Trail near Heritage Drive. They have a smaller location in the CORE mall downtown.

They offer breads, pastries, and beverages, along with some breakfast and lunch options. I got a lemon poppy seed muffin and chai latte, both were great.
